Shigatse

 

    Shigatse, at an altitude of 3,800 meters, has a history of five centuries. A political and religious center for the Rear Tibet, it is also the town of traditional residence of Nainqen Lama.
    The majestic Himalayas are to the south of Shigatse. The shrine of Amitabha Maitriya in the Tashilunpho Monastery attracts thousands of visitors. Shigatse is famouns for its monasteries like the Sakya Monastery, Palcho Monastery and Shalu Monastery.
